District heating from waste heat

Since the end of 2018, Tierkörperverwertung Oberösterreich (TKV OÖ) and Steiermark (ST.TKV) have been making a particular contribution to environmental and climate protection. Waste heat from the production process is being fed into the local district heating grid.

Successful district heating project: climate-friendly and energy-efficient

During the 2020 heating season, TKV OÖ was even able to increase the amount of cogenerated waste heat. The ecological effect was savings of almost 4,000 tons of CO2 per year. In 2020, more than 1,000 tons of CO2 were saved in Regau, corresponding to over 4,000 megawatt hours (MWh) or the energy requirements of around 314 households. At the Tierkörperverwertung plant in Styria, over 10,000 MWh of waste heat were produced through cogeneration last year. This is enough to provide climate-friendly heat to 750 households and save almost 3,000 tons of fossil CO2.
